Start

Install the extension, create a wallet and protect it. It takes about five minutes.

Install

Chrome

  1. Open OpenWallet in the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Choose Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
  3. Open the puzzle-piece menu in the toolbar and pin OpenWallet, so you always open the real one.

OpenWallet needs Chrome 116 or later.

Edge

  1. Open OpenWallet in the Chrome Web Store in Microsoft Edge.
  2. If Edge asks, choose Allow extensions from other stores.
  3. Choose Add to Chrome, then Add extension.
  4. Pin OpenWallet from the Extensions menu in the toolbar.

Install OpenWallet only from the store listing. Do not install a wallet from a link in an email, a message, an advert or a search result. A fake wallet can take everything you put in it.

Create a wallet

  1. Choose a password of at least 10 characters. It encrypts the wallet on this device.
  2. See your 24 recovery words once. The wallet shows them, blurred until you press Reveal, and asks you to confirm three. They are a backup you control; once the wallet is protected, you do not need them to recover.
  3. Protect your wallet (below).

Protect your wallet

Protection is what replaces the seed phrase as your way back.

  1. Sign in with your email (a 6-digit code) or Google.
  2. Add an authenticator app and type its 6-digit code. Use one that is not backed up to the same Google account you sign in with.
  3. Save your Recovery Kit, a small file, in a password manager or a cloud drive that is not your sign-in account, and write down its recovery code.
  4. Check it: load the file and type the code once. Home then shows your wallet as protected.

Every code is typed here, inside the extension.

OpenWallet never asks for codes on a website. Type email and authenticator codes only inside the extension.

Import a wallet

You can import 12 or 24 recovery words, or an XRP Ledger family seed (it starts with s). A 24-word wallet can then be protected with OpenWallet ID. On the XRP Ledger's main network, 24-word wallets use the path m/44'/144'/0'/0/0, the same as Ledger, Trust Wallet and Xaman, so the same words give the same address there.

Unlock

  • The wallet locks after 5 minutes without use by default (up to 60 if you choose), and whenever your computer's screen locks.
  • Touch ID or Windows Hello. On a computer that supports it, you can unlock with Touch ID or Windows Hello instead of typing your password. The password stays the backup, and after 5 failed tries it is needed once. This works only on that computer.

Real value

A new wallet starts on the XRP Ledger's main network, where XRP and tokens have real value and a sent payment cannot be undone. Before you first use it, the wallet shows one screen that says so. You can switch to Testnet or Devnet from the network menu to practise; their XRP has no value.
